Rainy days arrived, initially with dim light and fine drizzle. Soon, dark clouds rolled in from the distance, forming a vast, oppressive black mass. The rain intensified, converging into small rivers on the ground.
The sky suddenly darkened, as if night had fallen in an instant; one could not see their hand in front of their face, even though it was supposed to be daytime.
The world was shrouded in darkness and heavy rain. Gigantic clouds collided, immediately unleashing a thunderous roar. Lightning danced like golden serpents, piercing from the heavens to the earth.
"Boom!"
The sky trembled as golden serpents streaked across it, illuminating the pitch-black firmament and casting radiant light. The torrential rain made the world a vast expanse of water.
It was the rainy season, and thunderstorms were not unexpected, but the terrifying lightning made it frightening. In the wilderness, all kinds of ferocious beasts were hiding, fearing disaster.
This was because things with spirituality that went against the heavens could provoke lightning and be destroyed. There were many examples, like lightning-struck wood or ancient demons.
Dozens of miles away from the Heaven-Repairing Pavilion, two figures, one large and one small, stood in the rain, letting the heavy rain soak their clothes. They looked up, waiting for the right moment. It was the Thunder Ancestor Mu Yan and Little Dot. They were waiting for the opportunity. Such intense lightning would surely reduce anything mortal to ash, and they needed to wait for it to subside.
Moreover, the Thunder Tribulation Liquid was only produced after the lightning faded following the storm.
This was the true lightning of the Nine Heavens, representing the might of heaven and earth, incredibly difficult to resist, far more powerful than any lightning wielded by living beings.
Finally, as the rain eased, the thunderclouds churned, and the fierce lightning became less intense. It was time to search for the Thunder Tribulation Liquid.
“This is the moment,” said Mu Yan.
He stepped onto a precious artifact and, with Little Dot in tow, soared into the sky towards the rolling dark clouds, seeking the secrets of lightning and the divine liquid.
The sky was dark, and lightning flashed through the clouds. Although it was not as ferocious as before, it was still quite frightening, especially up close.
The lightning was blinding, making it impossible to open one's eyes. At such a close distance, it was nerve-wracking, causing one's hair to stand on end.
Little Dot immediately screamed in terror, “Why am I so unlucky to be struck by lightning?”
“Stop yelling and focus on sensing the hint of life growing amidst destruction,” the Thunder Ancestor scolded.
Little Dot looked pitiable, his eyes wide open. He was very nervous, his heart pounding rapidly, fearing that a single mistake could mean obliteration.
After the storm, there was indeed a mysterious aura among the clouds, a force of life nurtured within the thunder. Touching it would certainly trigger the destructive power.
“Carefully sense it; don’t make a mistake,” Mu Yan instructed.
In the midst of destruction, new life was being nurtured within the storm. Little Dot opened his eyes wide and finally sensed it, although he had not reached that level and could not grasp the profound rules, he could still detect it.
“There!” he pointed ahead.
With a "Boom," a bolt of lightning struck down, enormous and directly engulfing both of them.
“Ah!” Little Dot screamed in terror.
Even the Thunder Ancestor was shaken, blood seeping from the corners of his mouth. He bore the brunt of the lightning, shielding Little Dot, and was injured.
“I understand now; you go down,” Mu Yan said.
Despite the injuries, everything was progressing smoothly. They had sensed the hint of life upon arrival, far superior to Mu Yan's previous dangerous and laborious search.
Years ago, he had spent countless time and effort to obtain a single drop of Thunder Tribulation Liquid, a cost that was unimaginable.
Compared to that, today was remarkably smooth.
He released Little Dot, allowing him to fall freely, then turned to face the cloud layer and welcomed the lightning’s attack.
“Be careful, Senior!” Little Dot shouted as he descended, using the golden Dragon’s Whiskers to shield himself, and after moving a distance away, he warned loudly.
“Stay back!” Mu Yan commanded, his hair and beard standing on end as he plunged into the lightning, immediately receiving a heavy blow, his body surrounded by searing electrical light.
“So terrifying,”
Little Dot was horrified, the battle armor carefully prepared by the Thunder Ancestor was immediately torn apart and turned to tribulation ash. The natural power of heaven and earth was too fearsome.
Mu Yan glowed brightly as he stepped into the lightning, his body shaking violently from the impact. Yet, having practiced thunder arts for years, he was deeply aware of this and did not always face it head-on. He used thunder techniques to redirect the lightning.
However, the Nine Heavens’ thunder was sentient and struck swiftly, surging like a torrent and knocking him down, his body trembling uncontrollably.
Mu Yan’s complexion changed. Facing such a death-defying trial, entering the lightning was like stepping into the depths of hell. It was not a duel among cultivators but true divine wrath.
“Boom!”
A bolt of lightning struck him, causing him to spit blood, his body charred. Even though he was skilled in controlling lightning and mastering this precious art, he could not withstand true divine wrath.
Thunder raged like a waterfall, cascading from above, submerging Mu Yan. His body convulsed, blood seeping from his mouth and nose, his precious armor turned to tribulation ash, enduring the pain of destruction.
“Senior!”
Little Dot was horrified. This was incredibly difficult; every step could mean pulverization.
Mu Yan persisted, controlling the artifact, advancing forward, chanting and weaving symbols, aiming to refine the thunderstorm, capture that hint of life, and extract the Thunder Tribulation Liquid.
“Crack!”
The Thunder Ancestor was once again thrown back, his body battered and blackened, constantly coughing up blood, his seven orifices emitting lightning.
Little Dot could hardly bear to watch. Beneath the clouds, in the midst of the thunder, Mu Yan advanced step by step, continuously injured. This was a place of destruction where even the most powerful figures appeared weak and powerless before divine might.
Yet he held on, falling and getting up again, controlling the artifact, always moving forward, determined to refine the hint of life here.
“That’s such powerful life force,”
The Thunder Ancestor’s body was cracked and blackened, but his eyes shone with intense light as he saw a pool with swirling mist inside.
“This thriving life force has turned into a divine pool and can give birth to the Thunder Tribulation Liquid.”
He was shaken, having never seen such a pool, only read about it in ancient texts. The last drop of divine liquid he obtained had come from years of refinement.
“Ah!” Mu Yan shouted, his shoulder pierced through and bones exposed, bloodied and blackened.
This was a torment akin to hell on earth, each step forward exacting a heavy price, heart-wrenching to witness.
“Boom!”
Thunder and lightning roared, the pool formed from clouds and mist was hazy, with radiant light and swirling vitality within. This was the most dangerous place in the thunderstorm.
Mu Yan was severely injured, enduring countless hardships. His body was battered, and he struggled to get closer, nearly having his skeleton scattered. He was on the brink of collapse.
Little Dot was terrified, clenching his fists. The depths of the thunderstorm were too frightening; even though it wasn’t the most violent moment, the chosen timing was still so harsh.
What was most terrifying was that the thunderstorm was intensifying. Lightning was intertwining, and its power was growing.
At that moment, time felt interminable, the situation critical to one's life and death. Finally, Mu Yan reached the front and grasped a hint of life.
At this moment, his flesh began to crack, and he fell down. Bloodied and suffering unimaginable injuries.
Little Dot rushed over quickly, catching him and descending towards the ground. A bolt of searing lightning struck behind them, impacting him as well, covering him in electrical light and causing intense pain, almost shattering his body.
It was worth noting that this was only the residual lightning after weakening.
“Hurry, help me refine the Thunder Tribulation Liquid,” Mu Yan shouted.
Inside him, the symbols dimmed, his vitality nearly depleted, and he was barely holding on. A ball of purple mist swirled in his palm, on the verge of dissipating.
Little Dot promptly took action, pulling out the Sun Ling Mirror and releasing lightning to stabilize the purple mist, then exerting all his effort to refine it.
At the same time, he took out two spiritual herbs for Mu Yan to consume, to restore his vitality.
Finally, with a humming sound, Mu Yan, enduring excruciating pain, regained some vitality and began serious refinement. The purple mist condensed, and the lightning rolled, transforming into a drop of liquid.
“It’s done,” he said with great joy, using a jade vial to collect it. The vial glowed with purple radiance, becoming translucent.
One could sense a powerful life force emanating from it. Although it was only a tiny drop, the newborn power and aura were astonishing.
They landed on the ground, and Mu Yan immediately collapsed, utterly exhausted. His injuries were severe, with many bones exposed and turned black.
“Senior, are you alright?” Little Dot asked worriedly.
“It’s fine. Keep this vial of divine liquid safe. Although it’s only a drop, it’s invaluable. It will help you become more attuned to lightning and greatly benefit your cultivation,” Mu Yan said.
In fact, apart from the life force, the Thunder Tribulation Liquid also possessed incomparable spirituality, ideal for enlightenment and breaking through barriers, making it a true priceless treasure.
Few people would dare to risk their lives seeking such a treasure in the thunderstorm.
“Senior, you’re badly injured. Quickly consume the Thunder Tribulation Liquid, or you might face life-threatening danger,” Little Dot insisted, pushing the divine liquid back to him.
“It’s unnecessary. I won’t die. I’m not seriously harmed after consuming two spiritual herbs. I hope the Thunder Tribulation Liquid will establish a foundation for you in the way of thunder. It must not be wasted.”
No matter how much he was persuaded, Mu Yan refused to consume it, forcing the jade vial into Little Dot’s hands and instructing him to refine it immediately and comprehend the mysteries of thunder arts.
With no other option, Little Dot took the vial. He took out Monkey Wine, a potent remedy brewed from dozens of spiritual herbs, to treat Mu Yan’s injuries.
The Thunder Ancestor laughed heartily. With such a thing, he could naturally recover. It was a treasure for healing wounds.
Little Dot sat cross-legged, consuming the drop of divine liquid. In an instant, he was overwhelmed by an astonishing life force, and the laws of thunder appeared, with symbols flickering.
“Roar!”
A golden Sun Lion rose behind him, immensely powerful. A layer of purple mist shrouded this fierce beast, its scales clinking as it began to evolve.
Eventually, the golden Sun Lion became adorned with a layer of purple, turning into symbols that adorned its body.
Little Dot’s aura grew immensely stronger, with the thunder art interwoven, forming an ancient symbol that evolved into the most powerful and fearsome lightning force.
He meditated for a full day and night before opening his eyes, and immediately, lightning surged and erupted.
Behind him, a golden Sun Lion with purple markings roared towards the sky. It was enormous, far more powerful than before. With a roar, a bolt of lightning shot out, shaking the heavens and the earth.
“The Thunder Path’s laws, I can only pass these on to you. From now on, you’ll need to cultivate on your own,” Mu Yan sighed.
Little Dot’s cultivation reached a milestone. The Sun Lion’s art had evolved, becoming immensely more powerful, a formidable weapon with devastating force.
In front of him, a volcanic crater appeared, drawing the Sun Lion inside. The fierce beast turned into a symbol, floating in the "magma," being nourished within.
