Half a month later, at the distant edge of the land, a mist began to rise—vague and ethereal. It was followed by a tremendous roar that shook the heavens and earth, shooting out strands of radiant light.
Everyone in Duankong City was startled, as if a divine being had awakened from slumber and opened its eyes from the chaos, emitting bolts of lightning from its gaze.
At the edge of the earth, chaos churned, lightning intertwined, thunder roared, and torrential rain poured down, as if the end of the world had arrived.
“It’s here. Mount Bai Duan is about to appear, and the passage will open, revealing itself to the world again,” the elder figures in the city widened their eyes and watched with intense anticipation.
The land was originally very flat, but now it bore some vague shadows, resembling the rise of mountain ranges, appearing and disappearing intermittently.
However, upon closer inspection, the land seemed to remain perfectly level; the so-called shadows were in another realm, separated by boundless voids, merely manifesting now.
“It has come. It indeed forms its own realm and opens today. This is a rare opportunity. Children, your chance has arrived. You might find great fortune inside, or you may die without a trace. Choose and seize your opportunity wisely,” an elder shouted, causing the entire Duankong City to tremble.
“You still have some time. Hurry and prepare,” the senior expert communicated through sound transmission.
Hundreds of years ago, a prodigy rose from Mount Bai Duan, soared to greatness after returning, and eventually became the Emperor of Humanity. Others faced near-death experiences and, upon return, became supreme leaders.
Even more ancient times saw names shining with divine aura, overshadowing the ages and shaking the vast historical earth.
In an instant, Duankong City was in chaos. Everyone was on the move. Various races appeared: flying divine monkeys, airborne stones, fluttering demonic butterflies, giants over ten meters tall, and tree spirits rooted in the void, all glowing with runes, ready to rush toward the edge of the earth.
Naturally, the majority were humans, with ancient families, top sects, and descendants of ancient royal families filling the city walls.
“Junior Brother, what are you doing? Hurry up! We can’t be the last to rush in,” the disciples of the Bu Tian Pavilion urged the little one anxiously.
“Good things take time. Don’t rush. I’m just packing my things. You all go ahead,” the little one said, with a bundle of bags as if he was moving house.
This left the five talented members of the Bu Tian Pavilion dumbfounded. Were they going on a trip or to battle? Why was he carrying so many things?
“Alright, I’m done packing,” the little one finally said, nimbly carrying a large sack and following along.
The old monster Tao Ye from the Bu Tian Pavilion looked somewhat speechless. Others brought medicine, weapons, but this kid seemed to have come from the kitchen, carrying a mess of random items.
With time running short, Tao Ye didn’t ask further. He took the few youths and rushed toward the city gate.
“Senior, do you have any treasure artifacts? Just give me one, or a jade jar that can hold many things would do. This sack is too cumbersome,” the little one said.
“No,” Tao Ye shook his head. There was no time to argue, and he led the group quickly up the city wall.
“Boom!”
At the edge of the earth, the chaotic mist grew denser, finally surging and roaring like a white wave, creating a spectacular scene.
The giant waves surged, the white mist rolled, crashing and booming through the entire realm, with a shocking and intense spectacle.
The chaotic energy was impacting, so vast and terrifying that many who had lived for decades saw it for the first time. It was overwhelmingly grand.
It was as if thousands of horses and soldiers were galloping, a million troops charging, rumbling and roaring, the white mist hitting the sky, boundless and terrifying.
“Boom!”
With the final roar, the chaotic energy reached here. Many were scared out of their wits, thinking they would be swallowed, but then they suddenly realized that the heavens and earth seemed to have split apart, and the white mist had stopped.
“The city lives up to its name. It’s truly a city of void,” everyone marveled.
At the same time, the broken altar in the city, stained with the blood of saints, emitted a faint glow, as if coming back to life, reminiscing about ancient times.
“No need to wait. Mount Bai Duan has opened. You can enter now,” a loud shout came, and an old ape threw his child out.
Next, a young dragon leapt up, disappearing into the chaotic mist in an instant.
Then, a golden bird soared to the sky, vanishing into the chaos.
A demonic butterfly flapped its wings, cutting through the air, and two white jade dragons ran side by side, rumbling as they crossed the land.
At this moment, all kinds of beings moved simultaneously, charging into the mist, eager to be the first to enter Mount Bai Duan and gain the greatest fortune.
The human prodigies were naturally unwilling to lag behind. They leaped and chased, with some already at the forefront, displaying treasures and racing against giants and divine bird descendants.
At the edge of the earth, there was only one gateway. Although it was enormous, so many people had come that it was impossible to squeeze in all at once, and the crowd was blocked outside.
There was even some fighting breaking out here, with some beings engaging in battles.
Among the crowd, the little one with such a large bundle drew attention, and all beings looked at him oddly.
Many elders who had come to see them off also showed unusual expressions, and someone couldn’t help but ask, “Little friend, what have you brought with you?”
“Just treasures,” the little one said, throwing the sack down with a clatter and sitting on it, since the path ahead was blocked and progress was difficult for the moment.
“Just treasures, in such a big sack?” The crowd did not believe it, including some beings from other races who were also astonished.
“Of course,” the little one patted the huge sack under him, looking quite pleased with himself.
“Your sect is truly powerful, giving so many treasures to its disciples. It’s awe-inspiring,” someone sighed.
Elder Tao Ye of the Bu Tian Pavilion felt his face burn. He had escorted the items all the way, clearly hearing the clinking of pots and pans.
Many nearby people showed fierce looks, clearly intending to snatch the sack.
“I advise you all, don’t set your sights on my treasures, or I’ll stew each one of you,” the little one glared at the foreign beings, guarding the large sack as if protecting his food.
The surrounding human elders laughed and said, “Little friend, could we take a look at what’s inside? We’re not going to fight you for it at our age.”
“Alright,” the little one said reluctantly, slowly opening the large sack.
Everyone turned to look, stretching their necks to see what was inside, including the foreign beings, their eyes full of curiosity despite their fierce looks.
Only Tao Ye’s face was red, wishing he could turn and leave. He gave the little one a slap and said, “What’s there to show off? Just carry it.”
“It’s too heavy to carry. Give me a treasure or a spirit jar, and I’ll stuff everything inside,” the little one extended his hand to ask.
“No,” Tao Ye said angrily. This kid was clearly trying to extort him.
“Open it, let us see,” the people around complained.
“Alright.” The little one quickly untied the large sack, revealing everything inside. A group of people craned their necks and blinked in disbelief. What kind of treasure is this?
For a long time, everyone was speechless. This kid was truly a disappointment, a source of false hope.
“Say, kid, did you rob someone’s kitchen?” an old man asked.
“How did you know?” The little one widened his eyes and then explained, “I didn’t just rob; I left a note, marking it as requisitioned by our sect and said they could claim it from our pure land in the future.”
Elder Tao Ye of the Bu Tian Pavilion, already red-faced with anger, was now even more enraged, his face turning dark. This kid was a disgrace. How could he do such a thing? It was humiliating. How could the esteemed Bu Tian Pavilion need to requisition such things? He would rather this brat became a bandit, robbing other experts, than face such a situation. It was a disgrace.
The crowd was petrified. No one had expected the so-called treasures to be these items.
Some foreign beings immediately recoiled. What kind of treasure is this? How could such a small, broken kid be useful in Bai Duan Mountain?
“You’re all too stupid, you don’t understand how to survive outside. Soon you’ll be envious of me. Braised lion’s head, stewed fatty meat, tiger bone soup—just wait and see,” the little one wiped his saliva.
“Please, don’t say any more,” said a beautiful senior sister next to him, covering her face. It was too embarrassing to have such a junior brother.
An old man, curious, crouched down to take a closer look. Indeed, the sack was well-stocked, including various spices—he had thoroughly plundered a kitchen.
“Let’s go, we can enter now.”
The sea of people ahead was almost gone. Endless beings had already entered. The prodigies of the Bu Tian Pavilion once again set off, bidding farewell to Elder Tao Ye, and rushed toward the glowing giant gate.
With a swoosh, they passed through and plunged into a misty passage, uncertain of where it would lead.
“Go, keep moving forward.”
“There are many passages here. Choosing different paths will lead to different areas of Bai Duan Mountain. The paths are interconnected, so beings entering from different passages will eventually encounter each other,” one of the senior brothers from the Bu Tian Pavilion said.
This was based on Elder Tao Ye’s advice and the experience of predecessors.
At the beginning, they needed to avoid having all beings crowd together, or a large-scale battle would ensue.
After entering the passage, the little one and his group ran at full speed. After an unknown amount of time, the mist thinned, and light started to seep through.
Soon, they burst out into a new area, where they felt a dense spiritual energy, much richer than that of the Bu Tian Pavilion. The spiritual energy was almost palpable.
“This small world is a treasure! Cultivating here is incredibly efficient,” the group was excited.
Ahead was a lake, clear and pristine, with strands of spiritual energy rising. Ancient herbs perfumed the air, and wild beasts roared in the distance.
Some peaks were radiant, covered in spiritual vines and fine trees, resembling an immortal realm.
“There are four spiritual herbs over there!” a senior sister exclaimed, pointing to a mountain wall.
At that moment, the little one let out a loud shout, threw aside the large sack, and, like a human-shaped beast, fiercely charged backward.
“Crack!”
The sound of something breaking echoed as a large tree howled and split in two, rapidly transforming into a broken tree spirit.
The other disciples of the Bu Tian Pavilion were horrified. This was a master of the tree race, normally disguised as a large tree, hidden among the woods and very formidable.
Clearly, this was a prodigy of the tree race, extremely powerful. It had tried to ambush them, but the little one had smashed it with his own body.
“Flap, flap!”
In the distance, a fiery red bird took flight, soaring away and emitting terrifying fluctuations.
“Big Red, don’t go, come back here!”
The little one roared, lifting a massive stone weighing thousands of pounds and smashing it into the sky. With a loud bang, the bird let out an angry cry, unleashing a torrent of flames that melted the stone into magma.
“Little Black, don’t run, leave the bear paw!” The little one turned again, seeing a black, horned bear with glowing runes, fleeing rapidly.
The prodigies of the Bu Tian Pavilion were stunned. This little junior brother was incredibly fierce. Once he entered the forest, he was like a dragon returning to the sea, so wild and powerful that he drove away the surrounding strong beings, all prodigies of other races.
To be continued.
