The light was blinding. The one-zhang-square pool shone as brilliantly as a golden sun, with the world bathed in golden hues and fiery mists stretching far and wide.
Several beings with human forms, bird-like features, and beast-like qualities were striving to approach the Eternal Spring. The golden ripples in the pool were so dazzling that only their shadowy outlines could be seen.
The little fellow squinted and smiled happily. It was a relief that he hadn’t arrived too late; those beings hadn’t yet succeeded. The area around the divine pool was the most perilous, and even the powerful beings couldn’t approach quickly, remaining several yards away.
He weighed the stubborn stone in his hand, aiming it at the figures, eager to smash it directly and send them flying.
“Help, don’t do this! I’ll break apart if I fall in!” the stone cried out in terror.
“Human, do you know who you’re speaking to? Hurry up and gather herbs to make up for the great error, or there will be grave consequences!” the golden beast roared.
It was a towering figure, a full yard tall, with dense golden fur resembling a blazing golden flame. Its pupils were also golden, shooting out two sharp beams.
The little fellow glanced sideways at it, then looked at the figures by the divine pool. He found a large boulder to sit on, propped up his chin, and watched intently as if he were an outsider.
However, his big eyes were very lively, even sneaky, and he occasionally chuckled with glee. He had made up his mind to “collect taxes” here.
“Human boy, are you seeking death? Didn’t you hear me speaking?” the golden beast roared, its pupils shooting out two beams of golden fire.
“Annoying,” the little fellow suddenly exerted force and threw the stone with all his might.
“Ah!”
“Roar!”
A scream and a roar sounded simultaneously. The stone cried out in pain, while the golden beast had blood flowing from its eyes and cracks at its brows, its temper raging.
It was a divine servant from the ancient divine mountain, holding a high status. Major clans revered it. Now, it had its head cracked open by a stone thrown by a human boy, which was absurd.
What was even less forgivable was that the stone was so solid that it kept the beast bleeding profusely and even obstructed one of its eyes.
The little fellow was quite surprised. The stone was indeed extraordinary, as he had guessed, and was incredibly hard, enough to injure a golden beast.
“Roar!”
The stone rolled on the ground, howling in pain.
The golden beast was furious. It was bad enough that it was struck by a human boy; now a broken stone was rolling around as if mocking it.
It extended a large foot and stomped down.
“Help!” the stone screamed in misery, rolling over to the little fellow’s side.
“You’re tougher than many powerful treasures. Quite impressive,” the little fellow said with a glimmer in his eyes.
“Seeking death!” The golden beast lunged forward, its golden fur a foot long, shimmering with brilliant light. It charged at high speed.
“Voom!”
The little fellow raised his arm again and hurled the stone with force. There was a loud thud as it hit the golden beast’s chin, causing blood to gush out. The beast’s wail was deafening.
Of course, it was the stone that was howling, and after landing, it rolled around vigorously, shouting, “It’s so painful, it’s so painful!”
“Damn it!” The golden beast nearly cursed out loud, clutching its sore jaw. It felt intense pain, while the stone continued to scream like a pig being slaughtered.
Most outrageous was that the stone remained intact, with no cracks at all, but the beast’s fury reached its peak, with steam almost coming out of its ears.
The little fellow scratched his head, pleased with himself and somewhat narcissistic, saying, “I’m getting better and better with my aim. It’s a hundred percent accuracy!”
“Damn stone!” The golden beast roared, its hatred for the stone rising to the level of its hatred for the little fellow.
“Help!”
The stone rolled away, quickly fleeing.
This time, it had learned its lesson and tried to escape in another direction. But the little fellow was prepared, leaving a phantom image as he chased after and grabbed it.
Then with a thud, he threw it a third time. This time, it hit the golden beast’s nasal bone with a clear crunch, and the stone howled in agony as it fell and rolled on the ground.
“Broken, it’s broken! It’s so painful, so painful!”
The stone screamed as if it had been shattered into pieces.
The golden beast covered its nose, tears and mucus flowing. The pain was unbearable, making it feel faint. It carefully touched its nasal bone and then erupted in rage.
“Damn stone!”
It was almost driven to death with anger. The stone hadn’t shattered at all, not even a crack, but the beast’s nasal bone was broken.
The golden beast kicked the stone while charging at the little fellow. It had had enough of this humiliation, suffering a severe blow before even engaging in a proper battle.
The divine servant was powerful, especially with its vast divine abilities and the ancient divine mountain’s heritage. Once it matured and appeared on the earth, it would be invincible.
However, here, it could not use its treasure techniques and had to rely on its half-blood divine beast strength.
“That stone isn’t simple. It hits precisely every time and is so hard, like the legendary Stone of Gods,” a being whispered by the Eternal Spring.
“Since ancient times, only a few Stones of Gods have appeared, all taken by ancient great powers and refined into supreme treasures. How could there be more?” another being questioned.
The stone, howling in agony, quickly dodged the golden beast’s large foot and burrowed into a hole, trying to escape.
“Don’t be afraid. It can’t do anything to you. I’ll take care of it for you,” the little fellow said as he grabbed the stone again with a bang.
This time, he held the stone personally, using it like a brick as he charged at the golden beast, beating it in a wild flurry like a storm.
He fought fiercely with the divine servant, causing a lot of dust and cracks in the medicinal fields, even affecting some spiritual herbs. Fortunately, the area was so remarkable that they couldn’t truly destroy the medicinal garden.
The golden beast was strong, but its most terrifying aspect was its treasure technique inheritance, which couldn’t be used here. Although still powerful, it was somewhat inferior compared to the little fellow. After all, it was only a half-blood divine beast, while the latter was akin to a Celestial Tier fierce beast’s cub. In this place, where only physical combat mattered, it was definitely suppressed by the little fellow.
“Ah!”
“Roar!”
The cries and roars alternated as they battled fiercely. The little fellow’s stone was tearing apart with its relentless beating, making the beast bleed from its nose and mouth.
To be honest, the golden beast’s hatred for the stone almost exceeded its hatred for the little fellow. It was pure mockery—the stone was hitting it so hard that its teeth flew out, blood sprayed everywhere, while the damned stone remained unscathed, continuing to howl, which was nothing short of ridicule.
After dozens of rounds, the golden beast was knocked down by the little fellow, with many bones broken. Its nasal bone, mouth, and forehead were particularly deformed from the repeated blows of the stone.
“It’s over, it’s over! I’m done for!” the stone cried out.
At this moment, the golden beast was knocked down by the stone, lying on the ground. Hearing this, it rolled its eyes in fury and passed out.
“Stop screaming. You’ve knocked it out,” the little fellow said, shaking the stone.
“It’s you who threw it, and it hurts so much. Ouch.” The stone’s voice softened as it stared incessantly at the golden beast below.
The little fellow was genuinely intrigued. This stone was indeed peculiar. It was proving to be an excellent weapon here, hitting its mark every time. It was infallible.
The beings near the golden pool were mostly indifferent; the defeat of the golden beast was irrelevant to them.
Only one being spoke coldly, “Are you trying to provoke me?”
The Eternal Spring’s golden light was so intense that it submerged everything in dazzling rays, making the beings appear as mere outlines.
This being was no exception; it was humanoid with flowing purple hair and an aura of terrifying power. If nothing else, it was clearly a pure-blooded fierce beast, as evidenced by its attendant.
“I don’t provoke anyone; I act directly when needed,” the little fellow replied nonchalantly, then inquired seriously, “What does your true form look like?”
He knew that even young pure-blooded fierce beasts could assume human forms and possessed formidable abilities, so this was likely not its true form.
“You’re not worthy to know,” the being stood expressionless in the golden light.
“Are you female?” The little fellow asked with curiosity. From the voice, it was apparent that this was a young girl. Her voice was a bit cold but very pleasant.
“Ah, puh.”
The powerful ancient beings collecting herbs almost coughed up blood. This human boy was audacious, daring to speak so boldly. No one knew better than them how terrifying that being was. They, as a group, had been defeated and even lost some members, becoming the golden beast’s prey.
“Human, you’ve angered me. Once I obtain the Eternal Spring, I will kill you,” the purple-haired girl said, her back turned. Her figure was graceful and exquisitely beautiful.
The little fellow scratched his head and said, “I want to subdue a divine beast. What does your true form look like? I hope it’s not too unsightly after I subdue it. I prefer creatures like the Dragon of the East, the True Hound, or the Nine-Headed Lion. Riding on them feels so majestic.”
He had a genuinely innocent expression, his eyes full of longing.
The ancient beings collecting herbs were truly horrified. What kind of background did this boy have to say such things? Was he trying to defy the heavens?
The purple-haired girl’s back was trembling slightly as she resisted a strong impulse, not turning around because the Eternal Spring was not far off. The area was perilous, and making any sudden moves could be dangerous.
The other beings remained indifferent, whether humanoid or divine avian, their attention fixed solely on the golden pool ahead.
The little fellow kicked the golden beast, saying, “Get up. It’s time to gather herbs.”
The golden beast awoke and was about to erupt in anger, but what awaited it was another stone, which struck it, causing stars to swirl before its eyes, nearly knocking it unconscious.
The little fellow stepped over its body, picked up a beast hide bag, and looked inside. There were about twenty to thirty precious herbs, with six or seven still intact, evidently gathered from outside. The ones picked from the medicinal field were all shattered.
“Great! What a huge harvest!”
The little fellow’s eyes curved into crescent shapes with delight. He sat on a large boulder, resting his chin on his hand, and began to watch the few figures near the golden pool.
He had experienced the benefits of gaining without labor, especially when it was taken from his enemies. He focused on the purple-haired girl, thinking it would be best to make his move once she had obtained the Eternal Spring.
