Chapter 40: The Willow Spirit

Chapter 40: The Willow Spirit

Unstoppable

The emerald-green willow branches exuded a green mist, appearing incredibly soft, but when they struck, they were harder than divine iron. With a "thud," they pinned the flying dragon in midair, blood dripping down along the glowing green tender branches, creating an eerie and mysterious sight.

The flying dragon could no longer make a sound, its scales losing their luster in an instant. It was terrified to the extreme, its vitality rapidly fading, and it trembled all over.

"What happened, Uncle Jiao?" Jiao Peng, who was riding the fierce dragon, yelled in panic, his heart filled with fear.

The scene was horrifying. The dragon was as thick as a water vat, stretching several tens of meters in length, its body covered with dense scales and a pair of massive wings. It was majestic and powerful, yet it was pinned in midair by a slender willow branch, unable to move, an incredibly strange sight.

"How could this happen?" The experts exclaimed in shock.

Was this a village's ritual spirit? How could it be so terrifying? Just one strike had pierced the body of such a formidable beast.

"Quick, bring it down!" The middle-aged man from Luofu Marsh, Jiao Cang, shouted loudly.

A dozen figures appeared from the forest, rushing in at high speed. Their palms glowed with symbols, and beams of light covered the village, as they attacked the willow wood together.

The Lei Clan, Zi Mountain Family, and Golden Wolf Tribe all felt a chill. Though only a few people seemed to come from Luofu Marsh, there was actually a group following behind, well-prepared.

However, it was all too late. In an instant, the massive flying dragon in the sky had already lost its focus. Its once-glittering scales began to crack as if they had endured a millennium, its entire body rapidly aging, and finally shattered into pieces, falling down.

This sudden change was terrifying. A dragon with overwhelming power, on par with the strongest present, was reduced to dust as if it had died of old age.

Jiao Peng, terrified, fell to the ground. He was so scared that he rolled and crawled away, losing all his arrogance, his face pale with fear, trembling all over.

On the glowing tender branch of the willow, a drop of gray liquid rolled gently, exuding a vigorous vitality. This was extracted from the dragon's body, absorbed by the willow.

Everything happened in the blink of an eye. From the dragon being pierced, to its rapid disintegration, and its fall, it was all completed in an instant.

The dozen experts who had jumped out of the primal forest arrived just in time, their various lights and symbols filling the sky, with ancient bird phantoms and fierce beasts taking shape, surrounded by dazzling lights, attacking the scorched willow tree.

"Whoosh"

The willow branches extended, forming a green chain that traced a graceful arc through the air. It looked light and crystalline, but the terrifying results it caused were chilling.

"Thud"

The willow branch swept through, slicing an expert in half. It appeared delicate but was as sharp as a divine sword, cutting a person in two, with blood gushing out.

"What is that?" The crowd was stunned.

This was just the beginning. All the experts who had rushed close were now within the range of its glowing green light.

The willow branches waved, fluttering with the wind, the green mist blossoming repeatedly across the sky. It was like a divine whip or a celestial sword, cutting one expert into two parts or splitting them directly in half.

Such attacks were terrifying. Although it was only a willow branch, its destructive power was equivalent to a razor-sharp weapon, cutting down all enemies.

"Thud," "Thud"

Blood splattered, and the sounds of combat were unceasing. The willow branches, light and agile, swept over, leaving behind a field of bodies, either severed or split in two, with blood flowers blooming everywhere.

The sunset bathed the sky in a golden glow, tinting the entire village with a golden hue. Under the sunset, a blackened willow tree stood with a shimmering tender branch swaying, looking indescribably beautiful. On the ground, a sea of corpses and bloodstains created a scene that was forever etched in the minds of the experts.

It was as simple as that. A group of experts from Luofu Marsh were killed in an instant, without any suspense. The other experts were chilled to the bone, shivering.

"Ah!"

Jiao Peng screamed in terror. Some bodies had fallen on him, covering him in blood. He scrambled and rolled away, crying out as he fled.

The middle-aged man from Luofu Marsh, Jiao Cang, was pale and had lost all color from his face. He was drenched in cold sweat, overwhelmed by immense fear.

What kind of powerful ritual spirit was this?

The experts who had been calm and collected moments ago were now stunned. Just a moment ago, they had looked down on Shicun, ignoring it, and were dealing with the lion’s bone and distributing the three young birds. Now, they were all horrified.

The simple-hearted villagers, including the children, and the arriving women and elderly, were also dumbstruck, staring in disbelief.

It was so shocking. A single willow branch had cut through heaven and earth, slaying the masses and inducing terror.

For decades, the willow had never communicated with the villagers and showed no unusual behavior. Yet now, it had caused such a shocking result, giving a sense of unreality.

Perhaps only the reclusive patriarch and a few others would not be surprised, as decades ago, they had witnessed even more terrifying scenes on a stormy night with thunder and lightning.

"Wow," Jiao Peng finally crawled out of the pile of dead bodies, ran to Jiao Cang, and clung to his legs, crying and shouting. He was in a state of extreme shock.

It was only at this moment that the calm was broken. The experts slowly came back to their senses, filled with awe and fear, unable to face the willow tree directly.

Jiao Cang from Luofu Marsh felt a mix of reluctance and terror. Standing at the village head, he said, "Powerful ritual spirit, please forgive my ignorance and offense."

As soon as he spoke, a gentle breeze blew, and the willow branches moved, lifting a mist that descended. With a "thud," a willow branch pierced through his right arm.

"Ah!"

A scream of pain erupted. Jiao Cang struggled with all his might, but it was useless. His divine light quickly drained away, his arm withering and cracking like dry wood, breaking with a "thud" and falling down.

Jiao Peng wailed in horror, holding Jiao Cang's legs below. The dry, broken arm struck him, and seeing the crystalline branches above, he fainted from sheer terror.

Jiao Cang grimaced in agony, having lost an arm and with his cultivation severely damaged. He swayed and felt bitterly regretful. Just moments ago, he had looked down on the villagers, holding their lives in his hands, but now he had become useless.

Two older youths from Luofu Marsh came forward to support Jiao Cang. Their hands shook, their hearts trembled. The sight they had just witnessed would be etched in their memories forever.

The experts fell silent, filled with a great fear. This ritual spirit was too terrifying, making their bones feel cold.

The Golden Wolf Tribe, Lei Clan, and Zi Mountain Family were all filled with dread. They had been discussing how to deal with Shicun and intended to seize the lion’s bone. Now, the scene before them made them tremble.

Everyone deeply regretted coming. If they had known the willow tree was so astonishing, they wouldn’t have come even if offered treasures.

"Hey, weren’t you going to snatch our lion's bone? Come and get it," a group of children, now calmed down, burst out angrily.

"Golden Wolf Tribe, Luofu Marsh, as well as the Lei Clan and Zi Mountain Family, weren’t you just looking down on us, completely ignoring us? Why are you all pale now?" Er Meng said, staring blankly.

"And weren’t there a few experts earlier who said they would massacre our Stone Village?" Snot-nosed Kid also clenched his small fists, bringing up old grievances.

The group of experts shuddered, their scalps tingling. They quickly glanced at the willow tree, fearing it might display its power again.

"Little brother, those were just jokes, not to be taken seriously. Don’t hold it against us."

The experts were sweating coldly. Their statuses were so high that they wouldn’t usually care about these villagers. They were respected wherever they went. Such a village and its people had no right to defy them. Yet now, they had to face the villagers and apologize.

"Big brother, can we overlook this misunderstanding this time? We will repay you generously in the future," said the leader of the Golden Wolf Tribe, looking at the strong men of the Stone Forest.

Swish

A green mist flashed by, and the willow tree moved. A branch rapidly descended and pierced through one of his shoulders, causing half of his body to lose blood. His arm cracked and fell off, rendering him almost useless, with symptoms identical to Jiao Cang’s.

Then, the willow branches swiftly acted like divine spears, piercing through seven or eight experts in succession. Those who had threatened to massacre Stone Village or had issued threats now had their vital essence drained by the tender branches.

"Leave," Stone Forest Tiger said.

The group of experts trembled. The willow tree was too terrifying to resist. Unless they reported to their clan leaders and came personally, the gathered experts here were merely courting death.

The group fled Stone Village. The leader of the Golden Wolf Tribe, Jiao Cang from Luofu Marsh, with a bitter smile, and the Zi Mountain Family’s clan uncle and the Lei Clan’s old servant, all left in silence. They had been thoroughly defeated this time.

Only the people from Yun Tian Palace remained calm, as they had suffered no losses. The elder, leading two pretty young girls, squinted his eyes and said nothing more. The two girls blinked their big eyes, looking at Stone Village, eager to speak, but were stopped by him.

The sunset had long disappeared, and the sky turned dark. From afar, the willow tree in Stone Village emitted a hazy glow, enveloping the entire village.

"We have millions of people, and our tribal lands are vast. If it treats us this way, isn’t it afraid of great calamities befalling it?" Someone complained angrily, over a mile away from Stone Village.

"We must report to the clan leader and have him come in person. Not to mention the lion’s bone, but also this ritual spirit, which cannot be missed," someone vowed.

However, as soon as the words were spoken, even from this distance, the ritual spirit sensed it. A fresh green willow branch, bathed in light, extended over a mile and lashed out.

"Thud," "Thud"

Anyone who had spoken harshly had their bodies sliced in half, as if cut by the sharpest of demonic blades, separating their upper and lower halves, with blood spraying everywhere.

The leaders of the various tribes also suffered injuries. The Lei Clan’s old servant and the Zi Mountain Family’s clan uncle lost a hand each, with their wrists severed as a warning.

The experts felt their scalps tingle and dared not say another word. They fled overnight, using their treasures, their lights dazzling, as they sped towards the depths of the primal forest.
