Chapter 10: The Ancestral Artifacts

Chapter 10: The Ancestral Artifacts

This is a precious relic bone, crystallized from the powerful ancient beasts, and the bones mastered by humans are developed from these rare treasures. They are sources of mysterious power.

The beast’s arm bone fused with Shilin Hu's arm, radiating brilliant light.

As a result, his power surged dramatically. His entire body grew from an impressive two meters to an astonishing three meters, becoming significantly stronger. Lightning-like beams surrounded him, and his blood energy was astounding.

The Qingscale Eagle screeched loudly. Although it was intimidated by the aura emitted from the beast bone, it was still unwilling to relent. Its black, curved beak gathered a growing brilliance, and the rune became increasingly powerful as it prepared to attack.

A mysterious force was accumulating, focusing on its beak, which grew even more radiant. The flying creatures and beasts in the mountains were startled and fled in panic.

“Fei Jiao, you go too,” Chief Shi Yunfeng ordered another powerful man in the village to wield the second ancestral artifact.

Shi Fei Jiao was robust and powerful. He dropped his wolf tooth club and activated his mysterious power. Bright bones appeared on his chest, sparkling like stars. He quickly took out an old, blood-stained ancient beast skin from his bosom and pressed it against his chest.

“Boom!”

A powerful aura spread in all directions, causing panic among the mountain forest creatures as if an ancient relic beast had appeared. The Qingscale Eagle in the sky was startled and ceased its descent, its eyes cold and nervous.

Shi Fei Jiao's chest shone brightly as the ancient beast skin merged with his chest, becoming part of his flesh. It emitted a powerful vitality, blossoming into a brilliant light that eventually formed a mysterious symbol.

A beast’s head faintly appeared, trying to break free from the symbol.

Shi Fei Jiao seemed to gain an additional face on his chest. The symbol formed from the ancient beast skin and his flesh glowed intensely, gradually taking shape, revealing the terrifying figure of a beast.

A colossal pressure swept through the forest, shaking the heart.

This was another of the village’s ancestral artifacts, an ancient beast skin. It was evidently from a bygone era and had crystallized into a rare and powerful symbol.

Most of the bones mastered by humans were copied from the beast’s precious bones, but not all beasts condensed their mysterious power into bones; some did so in their flesh or even their hearts.

Shi Fei Jiao’s entire body shone increasingly brightly, flickering like flames. His body was dazzling, and the beast’s roar rumbled through the forest, causing the mountains to tremble and rocks to fall.

This was not just any bone copied and developed by humans; it was the most primal source of power, a powerful bone and skin, extraordinarily strong.

Ordinary villages and tribes would never possess such items, let alone two ancestral artifacts at once. Clearly, Stone Village had an extraordinary history from many years ago.

Shi Lin Hu and Shi Fei Jiao stood side by side, gazing up at the fierce bird in the sky, unleashing the power of the ancestral artifacts. The ferocious aura surged upward like a torrent.

Nearby thorns, vines, and trees exploded.

The Qingscale Eagle’s cold eyes showed signs of fear and hesitation. It did not dare approach, seemingly thoroughly intimidated. Both sides were in a brief standoff.

“Ao, the Chief is here, and Uncle Lin Hu and the others are saving us!” At the cave entrance, several children peered out and saw a group of fierce men in the distance, cheering.

“Let’s go, the Chief and Uncle are here to take us home.”

The group of children in the cave rushed out in a swarm, heading towards the adults, while Shi Lin Hu and Shi Fei Jiao, relying on the two ancestral artifacts, went to meet them. The two groups quickly joined forces.

“Are the kids okay?” The strong men rushed over, picking up their children, checking them over to ensure no injuries.

“It’s fine, we’re all okay. Just a few minor scratches,” the children responded.

“That’s good,” the strong men sighed in relief, and then one by one began to use their large hands to give the children a sound spanking.

“Ouch, it hurts! Why are you hitting us? You were so concerned earlier, but now you’ve changed your attitude,” the children cried.

One of the strong men said, “One thing at a time. Since there’s no harm done, we need to settle the score. You’re not fully grown yet and dare to provoke a demonic beast. If I don’t smack your bottoms raw, I’m not your father.”

In the air, the Qingscale Eagle glared with murderous intent but did not dive down. It maintained a cautious standoff, not taking immediate action.

Chief Shi Yunfeng said, “Let’s hurry up. Lin Hu and Fei Jiao's mastery of the bones is not very profound, making it hard to fully exert the power of the ancestral artifacts. We should return to the village now.” He himself had a hidden ailment and was not suited for a prolonged fight.

The children were all found safe, which was the best news. The group, armed with large clubs and bows, carefully defended and retreated towards Stone Village, protecting the children in the center.

“Wow, Uncle Lin Hu, you’re amazing! The Chief has been experimenting with you for years and you’ve achieved such great results. You’re truly remarkable.”

“Yeah, and Uncle Fei Jiao, what kind of weapon are you using? I’ve never seen it before. Do you need to understand bones to use it? Uncle, you’re truly magnificent.”

On the way back, the children, ignoring the fierce bird in the sky, enthusiastically praised the adults, fearing a thorough scolding when they returned.

“Stop the flattery. I’ll give you a beating later,” Pihou’s father glared.

The Qingscale Eagle followed them all the way until it saw the old willow tree near the village. It then stopped, not daring to enter the village, instead circling in the sky and screeching angrily.

The villagers breathed a sigh of relief. Being followed by such a powerful ancient demonic beast was nerve-wracking, as a single misstep could lead to many deaths.

“This time, using the ancestral artifacts, I hope we don’t attract any trouble,” the Chief murmured.

“Don’t worry, Chief. Who would come across this remote mountain? No one will see us,” Shi Lin Hu said.

“Let’s hope so. The ancestral relics have been gathering dust for so long; we don’t want them to cause any issues now,” Shi Yunfeng whispered.

The anticipated bloodshed did not occur. They safely returned to the village. The demonic beast’s screeching echoed through the sky, its sound splitting metal and stone.

Once inside the village, chaos ensued. Women rushed forward, hugging their children tightly, having been deeply frightened when they received the news. The men began searching for sticks, ready to punish the troublemaking “brats.”

“Little rascals, I told you not to cause trouble. Stop right there!”

“Dad, don’t hit us! We know we were wrong,” the children pleaded.

The children ran away, eventually seeking refuge in the Chief’s courtyard, hoping he would help plead on their behalf and stop their fathers from punishing them.

Inside the Chief’s courtyard, the children were envious. Little Pihou was not punished but instead was holding a small ceramic bowl and drinking milk with a tiny wooden spoon.

“Wow, Little Pihou, you’re drinking milk again? You’re already three and a half years old!” one child exclaimed.

“Eek!” Little Pihou was embarrassed, holding the small bowl and covering it with his chubby little hands to prevent the older kids from seeing. His face was flushed, his long lashes fluttering as he weakly defended himself, “You saw it wrong, I’m actually drinking water.”

“Haha!” The children burst into laughter.

“We all got spanked, so why do you get to drink beast’s milk?” Pihou asked curiously.

“Because I told Grandpa Chief a story, and he liked it, so he didn’t blame me,” Little Pihou said with his big, shiny eyes rolling around.

“What story?”

“The story of Little Red.”

“What’s Little Red?”

“Little Red is that red bird I told you about. I’ve told you before,” Little Pihou, Shi Hao, said, feeling quite put out.

The group of children rolled their eyes and whispered, “If the Chief believes that, it would be a miracle. The Vermillion Bird was just a legend in ancient times. How could it possibly be real, and you chased it?”

“Well, two years ago, something unknown deep in the mountains attracted many powerful ancient relic beasts, causing an unimaginable battle. There was once a red fire that shattered the sky, and we could see the sky fire burning for days from our village,” the Chief said as he arrived.

“Clearly, there was a fire beast deep in the mountains, but it should not be the legendary Vermillion Bird, as that is too unrealistic,” Shi Lin Hu and the others also arrived.

“That battle two years ago was truly breathtaking. I don’t even know what kinds of ferocious birds and beasts came. One night, I saw a towering humanoid figure carrying a black iron rod, striding over several mountain ridges, but I couldn’t see its true form clearly,” Shi Fei Jiao said with a shudder, still unnerved by the memory.

When the adults arrived, the children immediately looked worried, knowing they were about to be disciplined. They had followed the Chief all the way here.

“Chief, we’ve taken all the eggs of the Qingscale Eagle’s nest. They can hatch into descendants of the ancient demonic birds and might even rival the sacrificial spirits, protecting our village in the future.”

“Yes, Stone Village will have flying battle birds in the future. These are three eggs from the descendants of ancient demonic birds,” the children boasted, hoping for forgiveness.

“You know how much meat is needed to feed such a ferocious bird each day, which is already scarce for us. How can we afford to raise three enormous creatures?”

“Ah,” the children’s faces fell.

“Moreover, you think it’s over? Look outside the village,” an elder sighed.

The children climbed onto a high platform and looked outside the village, and they were immediately shocked. The terrifying Qingscale Eagle was perched on a huge rock, its cold eyes glinting, its scales glowing menacingly. It had been keeping watch and had not left.

“This kind of ferocious bird holds grudges. You stole its eggs, and it won’t let it go easily. It will be difficult to leave the village to hunt in the future,” Shi Fei Jiao worried.

The children’s faces turned pale as they realized the gravity of their mistake.

“Eek, let’s return the eggs to it. The Qingscale Eagle is pitiful without its children,” Little Pihou said, fluttering his big eyes and speaking softly.

“This fearsome eagle is very terrifying. If we don’t return the eggs, it might cause endless trouble, and the village won’t be peaceful. Even with the ancestral artifacts, dealing with it is difficult, as no one can truly harness the full power of the treasures.”

The villagers decided to try returning the eggs first and think of other solutions if it didn’t work.

The three jade-green eggs, each the size of a basin, were crystal-clear with beautiful patterns and shimmering light. The mysterious power of the rune was emanating, with divine light sparkling.

As soon as the group stepped out of the courtyard and hadn’t gone far, the old willow tree next to the Chief’s house, which was completely blackened, suddenly moved. Its only willow branch, wrapped in green mist, descended like a glowing divine chain and lightly brushed over one of the eggs, causing it to shine brightly.
